Trend Alert: Light Filtering Shades
Window treatments are an extremely important part of any interior. They provide privacy options for any time of day and are important to consider and include as part of any interior design project. Over the years, we have designed hundreds of spaces that always include a window treatment recommendation (at the very least), and recently we’ve been using a lot of one type of window treatment. And those are Light Filtering Shades!
In this Trend Alert, we’re going to take you through some of the stylish and innovative ways you can use Light Filtering Shades in your home. Let’s get into the details of Light Filtering Shades!
Why we love light filtering shades!
Light filtering shades are designed to diffuse the natural light coming into a space. We love using light-filtering shades in our clients’ homes because they allow natural light to still enter the space, but also provide a level of privacy too.
Using light-filtering shades in the home adds a refined look to an area. They also create a liveable and relaxed look that is very sought after right now! We love the fact that there are lots of different options on the market for light filtering shades, from fabric shades like linen, to bamboo or wooden shades.
How to use light filtering shades
Using light-filtering shades in your home can be fairly straightforward!
Instead of choosing thick and heavy-lined shades for your windows, choose something lighter and airier, like a light filtering shade. Remember – they will still allow some daylight to come through into the space.
Light filtering shades are best used in areas of the home that do not require full blackout. For example, they are great for use in hallways, foyers, kitchens, bathrooms, and even home offices and playrooms!
What to watch out for with light filtering shades
As with any interior design trend, there are some considerations to take into account when thinking of using light filtering shades in your home…
It’s important to remember that light filtering shades will not create complete blackout in a space. There are black out designed shades and curtains that are better suited for bedrooms. However, light filtering shades do offer some privacy from the outside world. Again, for complete privacy, we would recommend a thicker lining for shades and curtains.
Ways to make light filtering shades last in your home
Light filtering shades can last many years in your home!
It’s all about choosing a timeless shade that blends wonderfully with the surrounding walls. If you prefer a bolder look to your space, choose a darker shade that complements instead. There are ready-made options that are great for ancillary spaces of the home, while you can also purchase custom shades for a more accurate fit.
