How to Incorporate Your Hobbies into Your Home Design
Your home should be more than just your favorite interior design style – it should tell your story and personal interests too! One of the most meaningful ways to do that is by weaving your passions and hobbies into your home’s design.
Whether you’re a reader, a weekend painter, a musical soul, or a green-thumbed plant lover, your favourite pastimes can become an intentional part of how you design and decorate your spaces at home.
Over the years we have brought our client’s hobbies and interests into their interiors in order to create spaces that are unique to them.

1. Music Loving
First up is for the music lovers! It doesn’t matter if you love to play an instrument or merely listen to your favorite songs on a vinyl player – there are some great ways you can incorporate music into your home’s design.
For this basement project, we introduced a feature wall to highlight the client’s favorite artists and vinyls. With floating shelves, we created a fun display that can be switched up any time.
Below, we have used a storage cabinet to display the record player while extra vinyls can be stored neatly within the cabinet itself.
2. Guitar Playing
Do you love playing the guitar? We loved designing this multi-functional space for our clients that enjoy spending time in the gym and also playing the guitar. Opposite this feature wall is a work out area which we’ll look at next!
For this feature wall we’ve created a flexible space that can be rearranged to suit playing the guitar at any time. We also love hanging guitars on walls in the right scenario too!
3. Work Out Areas
Following on from the guitar playing section of this space, the workout area is also key for these clients! If you enjoy exercising, why not create a space at home dedicated to the practice?
If a home gym isn’t your thing, consider creating a space dedicated to practicing yoga or Pilates! Alternatively, having somewhere to keep your Peloton bike or treadmill is a great way of incorporating your hobby into the home.
4. Baseball
Do you support a local baseball team? This teen’s bedroom got completely transformed to celebrate their passion for baseball. With a blue painted ceiling to represent the local team’s colors, and wall decals to create a baseball feature wall!
Instead of going all out, you could hang photography prints of your favorite sport or team, or display memorabilia.
5. Games
Lastly, games! This could be a passion for board games, chess, or even puzzles! Creating a dedicated space for playing games will not only give an area of the home purpose, but somewhere to accessorize with your favorite game in mind.
Over the years we have created a number of different games areas in our client’s homes. These are usually a corner where a round dining table and chairs have been placed to create a dedicated area for playing games.
